Sloppy Joes are a quick, sweet-and-spicy American meat ragout, which we eat "sloppily", piled into a soft bun.
1. In the oil fry the finely chopped onion, the garlic and the tomato pepper.
2. Add the minced beef, and fry it crumbly.
3. Stir in the ketchup, the tomato purée, the mustard, the brown sugar and the Worcestershire sauce.
4. Pour in a little water, and cook it into a thick, juicy ragout.
5. Season it with salt and pepper.
6. Serve the warm meat ragout piled into the toasted hamburger buns.
Tip: The name itself comes from the "sloppy", juicy serving – it may well drip a little out of the bun.
